How to Install Git Silently

Git for Windows Silent Install 32-bit (EXE)

  1. Navigate to: https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/releases
  2. Select the version of your choice
  3. Download the Git-x.y.z-32-bit.exe to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  4. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  5. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  6. Enter the following command: Git-x.y.z-32-bit.exe /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
  7. Press Enter

After a minute or so you should see the Git shortcuts in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

Create a Git Installation Log File

The Git installer offers the option to generate a log file during installation to assist with troubleshooting should any problems arise. You can use the following commands to create a verbose log file with details about the installation.

Enable Git Auto Updates

The Git installer does NOT enable auto updates by default. If you want auto updates enabled, you can run the following command line switch.
