Joplin Silent Install (How-To Guide)

Joplin is a free, open source note taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organized into notebooks. The notes are searchable, can be copied, tagged and modified either from the applications directly or from your own text editor. This article will serve as an informative guide and give you a clear understanding of how to perform a silent installation of Joplin from the command line using the EXE installer.

How to Install Joplin Silently

Joplin Silent Install (EXE)

  1. Navigate to:
  2. Select the Windows (32 and 64-bit) Download
  3. Download the EXE file to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  4. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  5. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  6. Enter the following command: Joplin-Setup-x.y.z.exe /allusers /S
  7. Press Enter

After a few moments you should see the Joplin Desktop Shortcut appear. You will also find entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

Change Installation Directory

You can also change the default installation directory by using the following command line parameters. In this example, I’m installing Joplin to “C:\Joplin”

Joplin-Setup-x.y.z.exe /allusers /S /D=C:\Joplin

How to Uninstall Joplin Silently

  1. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  2. Enter one of the following commands:

Joplin Silent Uninstall (EXE) – Program Files

"%ProgramFiles%\Joplin\Uninstall Joplin.exe" /allusers /S

Joplin Silent Uninstall (EXE) – User Profile

"%LocalAppData%\Programs\Joplin\Uninstall Joplin.exe" /S
