Xpra Silent Install (How-To Guide)

Xpra or X Persistent Remote Applications is a tool which runs X clients, typically on a remote host, and directs their display to the local machine without losing any state. It differs from standard “X forwarding” in that it allows disconnection and reconnection without disrupting the forwarded application. How to Install Xpra Silently

Xpra Silent Install (EXE)

  1. Navigate to: https://xpra.org/
  2. Download the Xpra-x86_64_Setup.exe to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  3. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  4. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  5. Enter the following command: Xpra-x86_64_Setup.exe /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
  6. Press Enter

After a few moments you will find Xpra entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

Create an Installation Log File

The Xpra installer offers the option to generate a log file during installation to assist with troubleshooting should any problems arise. You can use the following command to create a verbose log file with details about the installation.

Change Default Installation Directory

You can also change the default installation directory by using the following command line parameters. In this example, I’m installing Xpra to “C:\Xpra”

Xpra-x86_64_Setup.exe /DIR="C:\Xpra" /VERYSILENT /NORESTART

How to Uninstall Xpra Silently

  1. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  2. Enter the following command:

Xpra Silent Uninstall (EXE)

"%ProgramFiles%\Xpra\unins000.exe" /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
