Workrave Silent Install (How-To Guide)

Workrave is a free program that assists in the recovery and prevention of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). It monitors your keyboard and mouse usage and using this information, it frequently alerts you to take microbreaks, rest breaks and restricts you to your daily computer usage. How to Install Workrave Silently

Workrave Silent Install (EXE)

  1. Navigate to: https://github.com/rcaelers/workrave/releases/latest
  2. Download the workrave-win32-vx.y.z.exe to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  3. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  4. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  5. Enter the following command: workrave-win32-vx.y.z.exe /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
  6. Press Enter

After a few moments you should see the Workrave Desktop Shortcut appear. You will also find entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

Create a Workrave Installation Log File

The Workrave installer offers the option to generate a log file during installation to assist with troubleshooting should any problems arise. You can use the following command to create a verbose log file with details about the installation.

Change the Workrave Default Installation Directory

You can also change the default installation directory by using the following command line parameters. In this example, I’m installing Workrave to “C:\Workrave”

workrave-win32-vx.y.z.exe /DIR="C:\Workrave" /VERYSILENT /NORESTART

Exclude the Workrave Desktop Shortcut During Install

The Workrave installer creates a desktop shortcut by default. If you do not want the desktop shortcut, then you can run the following command line switches to exclude it.

Do NOT Start Workrave When Windows Starts

  1. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  2. Enter one of the following commands:
