EndNote 20 Silent Install (How-To Guide)

EndNote is the industry standard software tool for publishing and managing bibliographies, citations and references on the Windows desktop. This article will serve as an informative guide and give you a clear understanding of how to perform a silent installation of EndNote 20 from the command line using both the EXE & MSI installers.

How to Install EndNote 20 Silently

EndNote 20 Silent Install (EXE)

  1. Navigate to: https://download.endnote.com/downloads/20/EN20Inst.exe
  2. Download the EN20Inst.exe to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  3. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  4. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  5. Enter the following command: EN20Inst.exe /qn
  6. Press Enter

After a few moments you will find EndNote entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

EndNote 20 Silent Install (MSI)

  1. Navigate to: https://download.endnote.com/downloads/20/EN20Inst.msi
  2. Download the EN20Inst.msi to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)

Create an EndNote 20 Installation Log File

The EndNote 20 installers offer the option to generate a log file during installation to assist with troubleshooting should any problems arise. You can use the following command to create a verbose log file with details about the installation.
