Cryptomator Silent Install (How-To Guide)

Cryptomator offers transparent client-side encryption of your files in the cloud. This article will serve as an informative guide and give you a clear understanding of how to perform a silent installation of Cryptomator from the command line using both the MSI & EXE installers.

How to Install Cryptomator Silently

Cryptomator Silent Install (MSI)

  1. Navigate to: https://cryptomator.org/downloads/
  2. Download the Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.msi to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  3. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  4. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  5. Enter the following command: MsiExec.exe /i Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.msi /qn
  6. Press Enter

After a few moments you will find Cryptomator entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

  1. Navigate to: https://github.com/cryptomator/cryptomator/releases/tag/1.5.17
  2. Download the Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.exe to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  3. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  4. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  5. Enter the following command: Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.exe /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
  6. Press Enter

After a few moments you will find Cryptomator entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

Create an Installation Log File

The Cryptomator installers offer the option to generate a log file during installation to assist with troubleshooting should any problems arise. You can use the following commands to create a verbose log file with details about the installation.

Cryptomator Silent Install (MSI) with Logging

MsiExec.exe /i Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.msi /qn /L*v "%WINDIR%\Temp\Cryptomator-Install.log"

Cryptomator Silent Install (EXE) with Logging

Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.exe /VERYSILENT /NORESTART /LOG="%WINDIR%\Temp\Cryptomator-Install.log"

Change Default Installation Directory

You can also change the default installation directory by using the following command line parameters. In this example, I’m installing Cryptomator to “C:\Cryptomator”

Cryptomator (MSI)

MsiExec.exe /i Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.msi INSTALLDIR="C:\Cryptomator\" /qn

Cryptomator (EXE)

Cryptomator-x.y.z-x64.exe /DIR="C:\Cryptomator" /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
