  1. Navigate to: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/update
  2. Download the atlassian-jira-software-x.y.z-x64.exe to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  3. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  4. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  5. Enter the following command: atlassian-jira-software-x.y.z-x64.exe -q
  6. Press Enter

After a few moments you will find Jira Software entries in the Start Menu, Installation Directory, and Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

You can change the default installation directory by using the following command line parameters. In this example, I’m installing Atlassian Jira Software to “C:\Atlassian\Jira”

atlassian-jira-software-x.y.z-x64.exe -q -dir "C:\Atlassian\Jira"

Generate a Custom Response File for Jira Software

  1. Navigate to: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/update
  2. Download the atlassian-jira-software-x.y.z-x64.exe to a folder created at (C:\Downloads)
  3. Right-Click the atlassian-jira-software-x.y.z-x64.exe and select Run as Administrator
  4. On the Welcome to the Jira Software installation wizard, click Next
  5. Choose the Custom Install option, click Next
  6. Select the Jira installation directory, click Next
  7. Select the Jira Software home directory, click Next
  8. Select the checkbox next to Create shortcuts for all users, then click Next
  9. Configure your preferred TCP ports, click Next
  10. Decide whether or not to install Jira as a Service, click Next

  12. Navigate to the directory where the response.varfile is located
    • (Default location is C:\Program Files\Atlassian\Jira.install4j\response.varfile)
  13. Copy the response.varfile to C:\Downloads
  14. Uninstall Atlassian Jira Software to test newly created response file
  15. Open an Elevated Command Prompt by Right-Clicking on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator
  16. Navigate to the C:\Downloads folder
  17. Enter the following command:
atlassian-jira-software-x.y.z-x64.exe -q -varfile response.varfile
